A
TASTE OF OUR TOWN
|
| The Dhiman family of
India Gate open their doors to the Newmarket community to invite them to share
in a total Indian dining experience in contemporary setting. The Indian culture
of good service and "at home" hospitality are the roots of this
restaurant. The interior decor is warm and welcoming with soft Indian music
playing and Indian art on the walls to carry through the true Indian experience. |
|
Indian
food has evolved over the centuries from the days of chefs preparing delicacies
for their Rajah's (kings). The results have been a large variety of wonderful
recipes passed through the generations.
|
|
Indian
cuisine has become extremely popular. It is very tasty with it’s mainstay as
whole grains, legumes, vegetable and pulses. There are always vegetarian choices
available and the main meat dishes are made with chicken, lamb or seafood. The
chefs of India Gate use nothing but fresh ingredients with no additives,
colouring or artificial flavouring.

|
The open
window kitchen in this restaurant enables a full view of the Tandoor which is a
very hot, clay oven. The Tandoor is used to prepare meats and Naan, an Indian
bread served with many of India Gate's special menu items.
|
|
India
Gate can accommodate any sized function and welcomes events and parties as well
as offering a catering and take-out service. The dining room is set for fine
dining, where casual to semi formal dress and families are always welcome. There
are daily lunch specials, 3 course dinner specials and a child friendly menu to
make family dining a delight.

The
hospitality of the Indians is legendary. In Sanskrit Literature the three famous
words 'Atithi Devo Bhava' or 'the guest is truly your God' are a dictum
of hospitality in India. Indians believe that they are honoured if they share
their mealtimes with guests. Even the poorest look forward to guests and are
willing to share their meagre food with guest. And of particular importance is
the Indian host's pride that they will not let a guest go away un-fed or
unhappy. Indians are known for
their incredible ability to serve food to their guests invited or uninvited.
